Table Top Scale Buying Guide for Shops and Counters
How to pick a table top scale for a retail counter, packing table or kitchen: capacity, readability, display and battery.
A table top scale is the everyday scale for shops, kitchens, packing counters and small workshops. A few details decide how happy you will be with it.
Capacity and division
Match the capacity to your heaviest item with a margin, and the division to the price per unit. Selling spices by the 10 g needs a different scale from selling sweets by the kilo. Contec table top scales run from 0.5 g up to 35 kg.
Display
- A large, clear display facing the customer
- Backlight, if the shop is dim
- A second display on the customer side saves arguments
Power
A rechargeable battery keeps the scale working during power cuts. Check how long a charge lasts for a full shift.
Pan and build
A stainless steel pan is easy to clean. A rigid body avoids wobble, and a level base keeps the reading steady.
Trade use
If you charge customers by weight you usually need a verified scale. Read Legal Metrology for trade use before you buy.
