Best Jewellery Scale for a Gold Shop: What to Look For

How to choose a gold and silver weighing scale: readability, capacity, pan size, display visibility and stability for a busy jewellery counter.

At a jewellery counter a few hundredths of a gram change the bill. The scale has to be accurate, stable and easy for the customer to read.

1. Readability

0.01 g is the usual standard for gold, so the customer sees a weight like 12.37 g. Finer scales (0.001 g) suit small items such as gems, diamonds and lab work. Our 0.01 g gold scales go up to 3 kg.

2. Capacity

Think about your heaviest piece: chains, kadas, silver utensils. For silver, a 0.1 g scale with 15 kg capacity is common, see silver scales.

3. Display and pan

  • A clear display facing the customer builds trust
  • A pan big enough for a necklace, without hanging over the edge
  • Draft shield or a small enclosure at 0.01 g and finer, so a fan does not move the reading

4. Stability

The reading should settle quickly and repeat. A flat, solid counter matters more than most people think.

5. Trade use

If you bill customers by weight, the scale usually must meet Legal Metrology norms. See this guide.

Also look at gold purity testers so weight and purity are both covered. WhatsApp us your counter details and we will suggest a scale.
