Wireless vs Standard Crane Scales: Which Is Right for You?
Compare wireless-indicator and standard on-scale crane scales: safety, readability from a distance, cost and typical use cases.
The difference is where you read the weight. A standard crane scale shows it on the unit itself. A wireless model also sends it to a handheld or remote indicator.
Standard crane scales
- Simple and rugged, fewer parts to go wrong
- Good when the operator can see the display near the hook
- Usually the lower-cost option, see standard crane scales
Wireless crane scales
- The operator reads the weight from a safe distance
- Better when the scale is high up, or in a noisy or hot area
- Useful when the load blocks the view of the display
- The indicator needs charging or batteries, so keep spares
See crane scales with wireless indicator in lighter capacities, and 2 to 10 ton wireless models for heavier lifts.
Quick rule
If the display will be read within a few metres in clear view, standard is enough. If people would otherwise stand close to a suspended load or in a hot zone, go wireless.
